На Велика събота вече над 2000 години хиляди вярващи от цял свят пристигат в Йерусалим, за да станат свидетели на чудото.
Според православното вярване огънят слиза от небето само в навечерието на православния Великден и се смята, че в продължение на няколко минути той е невеществен - не топли и не изгаря. "Слизането на Небесния огън" е явление, което според църквата не може да се обясни от рационална гледна точка, а от научно гледище обяснението е невъзможно.
"Слизането на Небесния огън" е смятано за едно от големите чудеса в света. Вярва се, че огънят "идва" след молитва на Йерусалимския патриарх.
